Nursing

Admission requirements

Four year B Cur degree or a three year post-registration Baccalaureus degree, and registration with the South African Nursing Council as a professional nurse and in the elected field of study.

Approval from the Faculty Management of Health Sciences, on the recommendation of the Head of the Department of Nursing Science.

A candidate for the coursework programme must meet professional registration requirements for the elective majors as follows:

  • Advanced General Nursing Science Registration as a general nurse with the South African Nursing Council.
  • Advanced Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing Science Registration as a general nurse and midwife with the South African Nursing Council.
  • Advanced Psychiatric Nursing Science Registration as a general and psychiatric nurse with the South African Nursing Council.
  • Advanced Primary Health Care Registration as a general and community nurse with the South African Nursing Council.

A pass mark of at least 60% in the major subjects for the degree.

Candidates must occupy a post or produce proof of experience relevant to the elected field of study

Duration of the course work Magister programme is at least two academic years of study
