Portia Jordan is a professor, who holds a PhD in Nursing, Master of Business Administration and specialist qualifications in: Nursing Education, Health Service Management, Critical Care - and Nephrology Nursing. Her research focuses on critical care nursing, evidence-based practice and patient safety education in nursing. Portia is the co-lead of the international working group on patient safety and evidence-based practice initiatives across five (5) countries. She is the chairperson of FUNDISA (Forum for University Nursing Deans in South Africa), member of the Critical Care Society, Southern Africa. As per ministerial appointment, she is a member of the 17th South African Council of Nursing, where she serves as the Chair of the Education Committee and Vice-Chair of the Research Committee.  In 2024, she was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. She is also a fellow of the Academy for Nursing in South Africa. Internationally, she is a board member of Tau Lamda Chapter and member of Alpha Beta Beta Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Nursing Society (STTI).
