Dr Allison du Plessis

Dr Allison Du Plessis is a distinguished senior lecturer in the Department of Nursing at Nelson Mandela University. With a specialization in midwifery, she brings extensive clinical experience to her role. Dr Du Plessis has a decade of experience in both learning and teaching within the midwifery discipline, catering to both under- and postgraduate midwifery students. Her contributions extend to curriculum development and design for midwifery programmes at various levels, showcasing her commitment to advancing education in the field. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she has a background in clinical management and leadership, further solidifying her expertise in the nursing profession. Dr Du Plessis is actively engaged in external collaborations with national Nursing Education Institutions and other universities. Her involvement in the academic community is evident through successful supervision of numerous honours and Master's students, demonstrating her dedication to fostering the development of the next generation of healthcare professionals. Her research focus centres on clinical midwifery care, maternal health, child health, and family planning. Dr Du Plessis also contributes to the healthcare community through her role as a regional research mentor for nursing educators, practitioners, and students at Life Healthcare.
