Dr Candice Bowers

Dr Candice Bowers is a lecturer of the Department of Nursing Science and has worked in academia for the past 12 years. She has completed her Doctoral thesis entitled: Strategies to navigate workplace adversity for professional nurses in intensive care units in the Eastern Cape. Her research interest is around “Nurses within the Workplace” with a focus on workplace adversity and strategies how to navigate it. In 2022 she was awarded the NRF BAAP Grant. She prefers quantitative research methodologies and research studies undertaken within ICU settings. Dr Candice Bowers is currently co-supervising one Doctoral student, supervising Master's students, and multiple undergraduate projects. She successfully supervised Honours and co-supervised Master's students to complete research projects. She has thus far undertaken reviews for three academic journals. Other research activities include the incorporation of evidence-based practice within clinical instruments.

Her teaching focus area has been facilitating the Critical Care Nursing Science programme at postgraduate level until phasing out. Currently, she teaches in the undergraduate programmes. She uses a case-study and problem-based teaching approach with the aim of facilitating critical thinking, reflection, and problem-solving skills She has been involved in the curriculum development for the Postgraduate Diploma in Critical Care Nursing (Adult).
