Prof Wilma ten Ham-Baloyi

Prof. Wilma ten Ham-Baloyi is a lecturer and researcher at the Department of Nursing Science and has worked in academia for more than 10 years. Her niche and research interest are in the areas of implementation science and evidence-based practice, particularly relating to women and child health and well-being. In terms of research methodologies, she specialises in systematic types of reviews and quasi-experimental research.

Wilma enjoys research supervision and has successfully supervised 16 Master’s and five Doctoral students. Wilma is currently supervising various undergraduate, Master’s and Doctoral students. She is an editorial board member of BMC Nursing, TRENDS and HSAG and reviewer for various journals. In addition, she is an NRF Y-rated researcher with an H-index of 16 and is currently facilitating and involved in various national and international research projects.

Her teaching focus area is on evidence-informed practice, research, leadership and management, which she facilitates in the undergraduate and postgraduate Nursing programmes. Wilma uses interactive and innovative teaching approaches with the aim of learning with and from the students and making learning fun.

Research Interests:

  • Evidence based practice and implementation science and mother and child health and wellbeing: best practices and best practice guidelines, as well as the development and implementation of best practices and best practice guidelines for women and children.

  • Research methodologies: integrative and systematic literature reviews related to health and nursing (education).
