A warm welcome from the Head of Department, Dr Nolundi Radana

"Nursing is an art: and if it is to be made an art, it requires an exclusive devotion as hard a preparation, as any painter's or sculptor's work" - Florence Nightingale.

We extend to you a heartfelt welcome to the Department of Nursing Science at Nelson Mandela University. We are so pleased that you have either chosen to study nursing with us or are furthering your nursing education at our institution.

We truly believe that the art of nursing is grounded in nursing science. This is vital to understanding professional nursing practice - with the knowledge of its principles and application thereof - to help improve patient, family and community outcomes, as well as assess healthcare systems and environments and shape healthcare policy.

Beyond under-graduate level, we encourage nurses to delve further into the field of nursing science through research, evidence-based practice and education and training. We desire to conduct research with findings that can be shared to help identify effective nursing interventions, better understand patient experiences, and guide clinical practice.

We aspire to equip passionate individuals, with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide patients with the basic human right of receiving effective, safe and high-quality nursing care. We hope you will have a meaningful journey with us that will pave the way to you making a significant contribution to the local, national and global nursing and healthcare field. We wish you all the best. Welcome. Welkom. Wamkelekile.

Best wishes
Dr Nolundi Radana
